This Day In Doriot History

May-16-2008 By jdoriot

This is from Gus’ Caringbridge site…this was just a few weeks before Gus died. You all will have to stick with me over the next little bit…I’ll be reminiscing a lot as we approach the second “Celebrate Gus Day” which is on May 31st. I am really, really missing this little guy. There are just some days that I can’t believe he is no longer here…

This has been a great day for Gus!! I couldn’t believe how skinny he looked this afternoon…he has lost a lot fluid!! WoooHooo!!! He is being weaned off the Epi, Norepi and the oscillator. Now all we need are a few organs!

Thanks as always for all the prayers!

  3. Ellen Said,

After reading the story of Gus, my heart just broke! I know yours continue to break. I just wonder how many people have the same fate due to the lack of available organs. I look forward to reading your stories. I am so sorry for the loss of your baby!

  5. Nessa Said,

It’s horrible that you had to lose that beautiful little guy but i think it should be pointed out that through Gus’ Gang you are doing so much good for other parents who need the prayers and help going through the same emotions. Thank goodness Gus was born to such a wonderful family who not only loves him but honors his life as well.by helping others. Truly an awesome gift.

  7. Layne | Reward Rebel Said,

Oh Jen, you may not be able to pick up lil Gus and hug him as you’d like to, but he does live on in these pages and in Gus’s Gang. Nessa makes such a valid point, too (above). Gus is part of a family built on love, in every picture of his darling smiling face (in spite of all the tubes and wotnot he had to endure), I think that love is evident.

It was your compassion and warmth that first drew me to your sites, and I fell in love with lil Gus the moment I first saw him. You’ve pulled off a very noble task by helping others on the back of your own grief, and Gus’s brief life is still impacting on others.

Be thinking of you, Jen, chin up. :-)

  8. Crista Said,

I couldn’t imagine what you are going through but I can’t look at baby Gus without thinking about my 2 babies and what I would do if anything happened to them. He’ll always be in my thoughts!
